If you’ve made the New Year’s resolution to get into shape this year, you’re not alone. It’s one of the most popular, if not the most popular, things people resolve to change about their life each year. Part of that resolution might be to join a gym. If your house, particularly your garage, looks anything like mine, you probably don’t have a choice to buy home workout equipment. Also, the pieces of equipment you might pick up at the local Sears, are not going to be the best in the business or of the best quality. Equipment at a gym will be.

But what gym are you going to choose?

GymTicket Logo That’s where Gym Ticket comes in. Gym Ticket lists over 20,000 gyms. Gyms are listed by location, to get you to the closest gym to the office or home. When you enter your address, Gym Ticket brings up a Google map showing you the closest gym to the address supplied. They also list gyms by brand if you know the company name of the gym you’d like to use. It goes further by listing gyms by the types of activities they offer like yoga, pilates or kickboxing.

Gyms by cityI did my search and found a gym less than 2 miles from my house that I completely forgot existed. It’s part of Cal State Long Beach, my alma mater, and it’s called Frog’s Fitness. If I decide to try out the gym, Gym Ticket has deals for free guest passes and special rates for some of the clubs listed. Frog’s Fitness, has a three day free trial pass and $0 registration if I sign up for 12 months. The great part is, with the three day pass, I can try it out and if I don’t like it, I can check out another gym nearby and see if that one is a better fit.

Lastly, if you’re unsure how to choose a gym, Gym Ticket provides some advice on doing your research, evaluating and purchasing a gym membership

Check out GymTicket.com and get started on making that resolution a reality. All you have to lose is pounds.

  1. Please read the privacy policy before you enter your e-mail address in the form for the free guest passes. The Gym Ticket service will use your e-mail address to send you offers from itself and their partners. You may very well consider this SPAM, but it is clearly spelled out in the privacy policy how to opt-out. I don’t like that myself, but that’s a part of their service. Use a junk e-mail address service if you’re unsure of giving them your real e-mail address. Here are a couple that I’ve used:

    http://www.mailexpire.com/
    http://www.mailinator.com/
    http://www.spamhole.com/

  2. Yeah, GymTicket.com will spam you if you give your email to them. You shouldn’t have to opt out of spam and read a lengthy privacy policy…bottom line is that no one should be spamming anyone in the first place.

  3. James >>Just a different definition of spam then. I consider the crap I get in my inbox for things like viagra, mortgages, stuff I never asked for or gave my e-mail address for spam. There are lots of services out there that will automatically stick you on a mailing list and tell you so in the privacy policy.

Whose fault is it for not reading it?

I make my choice to not sign up for things all the time based on the privacy policy. They’re not always as clear and upfront as GymTicket.

Did you get whay you wanted out of the service? Did you try out a gym for free? Did you join a gym?

  4. Gymticket.com practices bad business. They try to give the image of an unbiased listing service, but not all healthclubs are listed because gyms have to pay to play. If they don’t have a gym in your area (no gyms want to pay to be listed), then they’ll still squeeze users for their info. so they can sell it to real spammers. Hopefully more consumers will wise up, and this awful service will go away.

My GymTicket.com review: They’ll sell user information to gyms or to spammers — they don’t care. They just want their money in exchange for your information.
